About Me – Sarah at Pin Up Curl

Hi, I’m Sarah — hairstylist, vintage enthusiast, and founder of Pin Up Curl. My journey began back in 2008 at a 1940s weekend in Derbyshire, where I completely fell in love with vintage style. That weekend sparked a passion (and let’s be honest, a bit of an obsession!) for the elegant hairstyles of the past, and from there, Pin Up Curl was born.

I spent years mastering traditional hairstyling techniques — practicing on friends and family as well as myself, and eventually launching a pop-up salon in a local vintage shop. With a dream of working for myself and a deep love for creating timeless, classic looks, I took the leap into full-time hairstyling.

Based in Derby and covering the Midlands and beyond — including international weddings — I specialise in vintage bridal hair, recreating glamorous styles from the 1920s to the 1960s: finger waves, film star waves, Marilyn curls, poodle sets, bouffants, beehives… the list goes on!

But it doesn’t stop there — I also offer modern bridal hairstyling, including sleek twists, soft romantic updos, and the ever-popular Hollywood waves (the perfect modern twist on a vintage classic). Whether you're going for full-on retro or just a subtle nod to old-school glam, I’ll create a bridal hairstyle that’s beautifully “you.”

Before falling head over heels for hairstyling, I worked as a knitwear designer — a background that brings creativity and meticulous attention to detail into everything I do, especially when it comes to wedding hairstyles.

I'm also the creator of Accessories by Pin Up Curl — a collection of handcrafted, vintage-inspired hair accessories and corsages. Each piece is made with love and worn by brides and vintage lovers across the globe.

When I’m not styling, you’ll likely find me watching old films (while drooling over the outfits and hair), treasure-hunting at vintage fairs, and buying too many plants at garden centres!
